Bomarito Signs for Atlantic Season

20070402dh_0017 Mathiasen Motorsports announced today that they have signed Jonathan Bomarito to drive the #26 Swift for the 2008 Cooper Tires presents the Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda.  This partnership comes on the heels of their impressive performance at the final pre-season testing session at MSR Houston, in which the team ran the fastest lap in three of the four sessions and clocked an overall fast lap over a half second quicker than the next competitor.

“From the moment Jonathan and the team met at MSR Houston throughout the test it was obvious that driver and team had great chemistry. Jonathan was able to provide tremendous feedback on the car, which allowed for positive changes throughout the test session. We feel very fortunate that circumstances fell into place that allowed us the opportunity to bring a very talented driver like Jonathan to our team” said team owners Ray and Leslie Mathiasen.

“Jonathan is a race car driver whose skills are at a level essential to winning races and championships”, said Technical Director Alain Clarinval. “As a team, we are very excited to be working with him, and will give our best effort to achieve the most competitive results with our newest member.”

Jonathan Bomarito will be one of the most experienced drivers in this year’s Atlantic Championship bringing 31 career Atlantic starts, two victories, one pole position and a total of eight podium finishes to Mathiasen Motorsports. In 2007 he finished fifth in the championship with a victory after starting from the pole in the race at San Jose, California.

With Jonathan’s 2008 racing plans settled, he can now concentrate on preparing to compete at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach during the weekend of April 18-20, 2008, where he finished on the podium last season.   “I am very excited to be racing the '08 season with Mathiasen Motorsports. After how successful our first test went I am extremely confident that we are going to be top contenders for the title. I can’t thank Ray and Leslie Mathiasen enough for this tremendous opportunity."” said Jonathan Bomarito.
